What is website as a service?

Definition

Website as a service, or WaaS, is a way of getting a website for a monthly or yearly subscription instead of a large upfront fee. The plan usually covers the design, hosting, security, updates and support, and often marketing tools, so the site keeps being looked after for as long as you subscribe.

How website as a service compares with buying a site

With a traditional build you pay up front ($3,000 to $30,000+ for an agency or $500 to $10,000+ for a freelancer, by one published guide's count), then pay again for hosting, for changes and, a few years on, for a redesign. WaaS turns that into a steady fee, so a new business can launch a professional site without a big check, and the site doesn't quietly age after launch.

The trade-off is that you keep paying. Before you sign, ask the questions that matter. Is there a minimum term? Who owns the domain, the words and the photos? Can you export your content if you leave? How many changes are included, and how fast do they happen? Some providers make every change for you; others give you the tools and support to make them yourself.

It suits businesses whose sites need regular attention more than a one-off showpiece. For plumbers adding a page each time they take on a new town or service, a plan that includes changes beats paying per edit. For HVAC companies, the offers change with every season. For restaurants, the menu, the hours and the specials never stop changing.

What to check before you sign up

  1. The full yearly cost, including anything billed on top.
  2. Whether there's a contract term, or you can cancel at the end of any period.
  3. Who owns your domain, and what happens to it if you leave.
  4. Whether you can export your words, photos and customer list.
  5. What's included: hosting, backups, https, changes and support.
  6. How changes get made: you ask for them, you make them, or both.
  7. The refund policy, in case it isn't right for you.

How Future handles it

Future works on the website-as-a-service model. Every plan includes a website designed for your business, a free logo, hosting, security and upkeep, design changes when you need them, and getting found on Google and in AI answers. The entry plan costs $19 a month, billed once a year.

It's self-serve: see three designs free, then make your own changes by clicking or describing them, with help from a person when you need it (the same business day on Premier). Your domain, content and customer list stay yours, and you can export your content any time. 15 days money back, minus a claimed domain's cost.
