This Privacy Policy explains how Built on Future, LLC (“Future”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses and shares personal information when you visit builtonfuture.com, try Future’s free designs, or use Future to run a website. It also explains the choices and rights you have. Words with capital letters mean what they mean in our Terms of Service.
1. Our two roles
- For our own visitors and customers, we’re in charge of your information. That covers you when you visit builtonfuture.com, get free designs, sign up, pay for a plan, or contact us. Most of this policy is about that.
- For the websites our customers run on Future, the business is in charge. The information a business’s site collects about its own visitors and customers (form answers, bookings, orders, contacts and visit counts) belongs to that business. We store and process it for the business, as its service provider, under our Terms. The business’s own privacy notice explains how it uses that information, and requests about it should go to the business. If you send one to us, we’ll pass it on where we can. Section 9 explains what Future does on those sites.
2. What we collect and why
2.1 When you visit builtonfuture.com
- No cookies, no tracking. This website doesn’t set cookies, doesn’t store anything on your device, and loads no analytics, advertising or other outside scripts.
- Forms that start your designs. When you type into a form such as “See your new website, free” and press the button, your browser opens our app with what you typed (for example your business name, what you do and your city) in the web address. Nothing is sent before you press the button. From there, Section 2.2 applies.
- Referral and campaign links. If you arrive through a link that carries a partner’s referral code, campaign labels (such as
utm_source) or an ad click ID, this website copies those labels onto its links into our app, so a sign-up can be credited to the partner or campaign that sent you. They travel only in the web address; nothing is stored on your device. - Server logs. Like any website, the servers that deliver these pages receive technical information with each request, such as your IP address, browser type, the page asked for and the time, and may keep it in logs for a short time for security and to keep the site running.
2.2 When you get free designs or sign up
- Your email address, so we can keep your designs for you, sign you in, send you what you asked for, tell you when you can launch your site, and contact you about your account. We may ask you to confirm it with a code.
- Your business details: its name, what it does, where it is, your answers and the choices you make (such as style and colors), your phone number if you give it, and your logo if you upload one. We use them to draw your designs and logo options and to build your site.
- Signing in with another account. If you choose an option to continue with an outside account, that service tells us your email address, that it’s yours, and your name. We keep only the email address, as if you’d typed it, and get no access to that account.
- Where you are, by country only. Future is open in the United States and Canada. We look up your IP address’s country in a database on our own servers to show you the right page. We don’t keep the address for this.
- Keeping free designs fair. To keep free designs to what one business is allowed, and to stop automated abuse, we keep scrambled (hashed) records of your email address, your device and your internet connection, and the business’s website, and we count how often each is used. On our sign-up pages we use a cookie to recognize the device for these limits. We may also ask a security service to check that you’re a person, not a bot. We may keep these records after an account is deleted, so the limits keep working.
- What you agreed to. We keep a record of the agreements and choices you make with us, such as accepting our Terms or allowing marketing cookies.
2.3 When you use Future
- Account and team. Your sign-in details (we store passwords only in scrambled form), your name if you give it, and the email addresses and roles of team members you invite.
- Your Content and settings. The words, photos, files, products, posts, logos and settings you add to your site, so we can host and publish it.
- Help. The questions you ask the help chat and its answers, so it can help you, and anything you send when you ask for a person.
- Activity and security records. Sign-ins, changes made to your site and account, and errors, so we can keep the Service secure, investigate problems, show you a history and support you. We look for suspicious activity and may contact you about it.
- Usage. How much of your plan’s Allowances you use (for example AI use, designs, rebuilds and emails) and what that use costs us, to apply the limits and show you where you stand.
- Our customer list. We keep a record of your account and how we’ve helped you, to support you and follow up.
2.4 Payments
- Payments go through our payment processor. You enter your card or other payment details on its pages; we never see or store your full card number. We receive your billing name and address, limited details about your payment method (such as its type, last four digits and expiry date), and your payment history.
- Where you’re billed. Plans can be bought only with a billing address in the United States or Canada. We use the billing address to work out tax.
- One money-back guarantee per customer. To apply the guarantee once per customer and business, we keep scrambled records of the emails, payment methods and billing addresses involved in a refund, and a person reviews any match.
2.5 Partners, campaigns and ads
- Partner referrals. If a partner’s referral link sent you, we record the partner’s code with your sign-up and share your email address, the sign-up and later payments with the service that runs our partner program, so the partner can be paid. We don’t need your consent on your device for this, because nothing is stored on your device to do it.
- Campaign labels. We keep the campaign labels you arrived with (such as
utm_source) with your sign-up, to learn which campaigns work. - Marketing cookies, only if you allow them. On our sign-up pages we ask before we remember on your device, for 60 days, the partner or ad that sent you, and before we keep an ad click ID. If you allow it, and you came from one of our ads, we may tell that ad platform when you become a paying customer, with your email address in scrambled (hashed) form, the ad click ID, your IP address, your browser type and the amount, so we can measure our ads. If you say no, don’t answer, or your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we don’t keep the click ID and don’t tell the ad platform.
2.6 Emails we send you
- Account and billing emails (for example sign-in codes, receipts, renewal reminders and security notices) can’t be turned off while you have an account.
- News and marketing emails go only to people who agreed to them, and each has an unsubscribe link.
- Our emails may tell us whether they were opened and which links were clicked, so we can improve them.
2.7 When you contact us
Your name, email address and whatever you tell us, so we can answer you.
2.8 Text messages
If you opt in to texts from Future, as a person booking with a business that uses Future or as a Future customer turning on alerts, we use your mobile number only to send the texts you asked for and to handle your replies (STOP, HELP, and C or X for a booking). We don’t sell your mobile number, and we don’t share mobile numbers or text-messaging opt-in data with third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes. Our messaging provider processes numbers only to deliver our texts. Reply STOP to any text to stop them.
3. How we use information
We use the information above to:
- provide the Service: draw designs, build, host and publish your site, run its features, and process payments;
- communicate with you about your account, your designs, your plan and changes to our terms;
- support you and answer your questions;
- keep the Service and our customers safe: prevent fraud, abuse and repeat free-design or refund claims, and secure accounts;
- understand and improve Future, using counts, costs and errors, and aggregated or de-identified data that doesn’t identify you;
- pay our partners and measure our marketing, as Section 2.5 describes; and
- meet our legal, tax and accounting obligations and enforce our terms.
We don’t sell your personal information. We share it with an ad platform only as Section 2.5 describes, with your permission.
AI. To draw designs, logos, photos and pages, answer the help chat and run the other AI Features, we send the information each request needs (for example your business details, the page you’re editing, or a photo you upload) to the AI providers that do the work for us. We don’t send them your email address to make your designs.
4. Who we share it with
We share personal information only as this policy describes:
- Service providers that work for us under contract and use the information only to provide their services to us: hosting and servers; backup storage; network, security and bot-check services; email delivery; payment processing; AI model providers; the service that runs our partner program; uptime monitoring; and, when it’s available, domain registration.
- Ad platforms, only with your permission, as Section 2.5 describes.
- Apps you connect. If you connect an outside app or AI assistant to your site, it gets what you allow it to see.
- People you choose. Your published site is public, and your team members can see what their roles allow.
- For legal reasons: to comply with the law or a valid legal request, to protect the rights, safety and property of our customers, the public or Future, and to enforce our terms.
- If our business changes hands: in a merger, acquisition, financing or sale of assets, under this policy’s protections.
5. Cookies and similar technologies
- builtonfuture.com uses none.
- Our app and Studio use cookies and similar storage that are needed to sign you in, keep your session secure and recognize a device for the free-design limits (Section 2.2). They also keep your cookie choices on your device. Marketing storage is used only if you allow it (Section 2.5), and a Global Privacy Control signal counts as no.
- Websites on Future set no cookies by default and count visits without cookies (Section 9). A site shows a cookie banner only when its owner adds something that needs consent.
6. How long we keep information
- Free designs without a site. If you get free designs but don’t put a site live, we keep your email address, your business details and your designs so you can come back to them and so we can tell you when you can launch, until you ask us to remove them.
- Accounts that never pay. If you create an account and don’t buy a plan, we delete it, with its site and previews, after 60 days.
- Paid accounts. We keep your account and site while your plan is active. When a plan ends, your site stays online for 30 days, you can export your content for 30 days, and then we delete the site and its content within 60 days (Terms, Section 21).
- Help chat. Conversations are deleted 90 days after the last message.
- Backups. We back up the Service daily. Backups are encrypted, and copies are deleted as backups expire, within 120 days.
- Records we must keep. Invoices and payment records are kept as long as tax and accounting law requires. Records of what you agreed to, and audit and security records, are kept as long as we need them to show what happened.
- Fairness and abuse records. The scrambled records in Sections 2.2 and 2.4 are kept as long as needed to keep the limits working, including after an account is deleted.
- Unsubscribes. If you unsubscribe, we keep your email address on a do-not-email list so we don’t email you again.
- On your device. Marketing storage (if you allowed it) lasts 60 days from your last visit through a partner or ad link. Cookie choices are asked again after a year.
7. Your choices and rights
Everyone. You can:
- see, correct and download what’s in your account in the Studio (for example with the content export);
- ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it;
- unsubscribe from marketing emails with the link in each one;
- say no to marketing cookies on our sign-up pages, or turn on Global Privacy Control in your browser; and
- close your account.
To make a request, email support@builtonfuture.com from the address on your account, or ask through Help in your Studio. We’ll confirm it’s you before we act, and we’ll answer within the time the law gives us (usually within 30 days in Canada and 45 days in US states with privacy laws). Some information we must keep (Section 6), and we’ll tell you if so.
7.1 US state residents, including California
If you live in a US state with a consumer privacy law (for example California, Colorado, Connecticut, Oregon, Texas, Utah or Virginia), you have these rights to the extent the law applies to us:
- to know and access the personal information we have collected about you, its sources, what we use it for and whom we share it with;
- to correct inaccurate information;
- to delete personal information we collected from you;
- to get a copy in a portable format;
- to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information, and of targeted advertising. We don’t sell personal information. Telling an ad platform that you became a customer (Section 2.5) may count as “sharing” or targeted advertising under some of these laws; we do it only with your permission, and you can opt out at any time by saying no to marketing cookies, by turning on Global Privacy Control, or by emailing us;
- to limit the use of sensitive personal information. The only sensitive information we use is your sign-in details, and only to provide the Service, so there’s nothing more to limit;
- not to be treated differently for using these rights; and
- to appeal if we turn down your request: reply to our answer and ask us to look again, and we’ll tell you the result and, if we still say no, how to contact your state’s attorney general.
You can use an authorized agent; we’ll ask for proof that they act for you and may ask you to confirm your identity with us.
What we collected in the last 12 months, by the categories California law uses: identifiers (such as name, email address, phone number, IP address and account IDs); customer records (such as billing name and address); commercial information (such as plans bought and payment history); internet or network activity (such as how you use the Service, server logs and referral labels); approximate location (country); audio or visual information (such as photos and logos you upload); and professional or business information (such as your business’s details). We collect them from you, from your device, and from services you choose to sign in with or connect. We use them for the purposes in Section 3, share them with the service providers in Section 4, and share identifiers and internet activity with ad platforms only as Section 2.5 describes. We keep each for the times in Section 6.
7.2 Canada
If you live in Canada, you can ask to access and correct your personal information and withdraw your consent, subject to legal and contract limits. Our person responsible for privacy is Jeff, our founder, at support@builtonfuture.com. If you’re not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or your province’s privacy commissioner.
Your information is stored and processed in the United States, by us and our service providers, and may be available to US courts and authorities under US law.
8. Children
Future is for businesses and for people 18 and older. It isn’t meant for children, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under 16 where that age applies). If you believe a child has given us personal information, email support@builtonfuture.com and we’ll delete it.
9. On websites our customers run
When a business runs its website on Future, we store and process the information its site collects for that business: form answers, bookings, orders, members, contacts and their email consent records, and visit counts. The business decides what to collect and how to use it, and its own privacy notice applies. For example:
- Visit counts without cookies. A site counts visits on its own server, without cookies or outside trackers. To tell visits apart for one day, it uses a scrambled key made from the visitor’s IP address and browser with a secret that changes every day and is then deleted; the address and browser themselves aren’t kept. It records the pages looked at, taps on phone, text, email and map links, where the visitor came from (such as a search engine or a campaign label), the kind of device, and, where available, the country and region. A browser that sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track isn’t followed from page to page. Detailed visit records are deleted after 30 days; daily totals without any visitor key are kept for up to 25 months.
- Contacts. When someone sends a form, books, orders or joins, the site adds them to the business’s contact list, with what they agreed to (for example marketing emails) and the visit in which they got in touch.
- Emails. Marketing emails a business sends through Future include an unsubscribe link, and Future keeps the list of people who said no.
Visitors and customers of those sites should contact the business with questions or requests. Businesses can find, export and erase a person’s information in the Studio.
10. How we protect information
We use encryption when information travels to and from our websites and app, encrypt our backups, limit who can access systems and data, and watch for suspicious activity. No system is perfectly secure, so we can’t promise that information will never be accessed without permission. If a breach affects your personal information, we’ll tell you as the law requires.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. Each version shows its version number and effective date at the top. If we make a material change, we’ll tell customers by email and in the Studio before it takes effect, as our Terms describe (Section 29).
