What is click-to-call?
Definition
Click-to-call is a phone number or button on a website that starts a call when someone taps it on a phone. Instead of reading your number and typing it in, a customer taps once and their phone dials you. On a computer, the same link can open a calling app.
Why click-to-call matters to a small business
For a business that wins work on the phone, it's the most important button on the site. People who need help now are often on a phone, and every extra step (finding the number, copying it, switching apps) is a chance to call someone else instead.
Put it where thumbs reach: in the header of every page, beside the main button, and at the end of each service page. Say what happens. "Call now" or the number itself in large type works better than a number tucked into small print.
For plumbers and HVAC companies, it's the emergency line, and it belongs where it stays in reach as people scroll. For dental offices, it's how patients book when the online calendar doesn't fit. For restaurants, it's takeout orders and table bookings on a busy Friday night.
How to make click-to-call work well
- Show the number itself, not just a phone icon, so people know who they're calling.
- Use the same number as your Google Business Profile and your directory listings.
- Say when you answer: "Call 24/7" or "Call 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday to Saturday".
- Tap it on your own phone after every change to the site.
- Make sure every call reaches a person, or a voicemail that says when you'll call back.

How Future handles it
On a Future site, any phone number you show becomes tap-to-call, and a number in the header repeats on every page. You choose where it goes and what the button says.
Pair it with a short contact form for people who can't call right now, like someone at work or a patient booking late at night. Every plan sends those form answers to your inbox and keeps them in Contacts.
