What is a Google Business Profile?
Definition
A Google Business Profile is the free listing that shows your business on Google Search and Google Maps. It holds your name, address or service area, phone number, hours, photos and reviews. When someone searches for a business like yours nearby, this profile is often the first thing they see, before any website.
Why a Google Business Profile matters to a small business
For a local business, the profile often does the first job a website used to do. People check your hours, read your reviews, look at photos and tap to call or get directions, all from the search page. It used to be called Google My Business; the job hasn't changed.
It matters most when people search with a need and a place: "emergency plumber", "roofer near me", "dentist open Saturday". For plumbers, a complete profile with the right category and service area is how you show up in the map of local results when a pipe bursts. For roofing companies, photos of finished roofs and recent reviews do the selling after a storm. For dental practices, accurate hours and new-patient details save a lot of phone calls.
Your profile and your website work together. The profile gets the first look; the website answers the questions that decide the call, like what you charge, which towns you cover and whether you're licensed. A profile that links to a thin or out-of-date site wastes that first look.
How to set up your profile well
- Claim or create it at Google, and verify that you run the business.
- Choose the most specific main category you can ("Plumber", not "Contractor"), then add your services.
- Add your address, or set a service area if you go to your customers.
- Add your hours, including holidays, and keep them current.
- Add real photos: your team, your vans or storefront, and finished work.
- Ask happy customers for reviews, and write a short, polite reply to each.
- Add your website to the profile, and make the name, address and phone match the site exactly.
How Future handles it
Future doesn't run your Google profile for you, and no website can promise where Google ranks you. Future's job is to make your website support the profile: your business name, phone number and hours in the same words on every page, and clear page titles and descriptions, so your profile and your site tell Google the same story.
On Pro, a review request follows every appointment booked on your site, so recent reviews keep coming. Local map rankings, Coming soon to Premier, will show where your business appears in local map results.
