What is online booking?

Definition

Online booking lets customers choose a service, a date and a time on your website and confirm the appointment themselves, without calling. The system shows only the times you're free, sends a confirmation, and can take a deposit. It's also called online scheduling, and it works day or night.

Why online booking matters to a small business

Plenty of customers decide what they want late in the evening, long after you've stopped answering the phone. A booking page lets them commit right then, instead of meaning to call tomorrow and forgetting. It also saves you the back-and-forth of finding a time that suits you both.

Booking works best for jobs with a known length and a known price. A furnace tune-up or a first inspection fits neatly in a calendar; a burst pipe or a full remodel doesn't. For those, a phone number and a quote form still win. Many businesses use both: routine work booked online, everything else by call or quote request.

For HVAC companies, spring AC tune-ups and fall furnace checks are made for online booking. For pest control companies, let customers book the first inspection, then set up the follow-up visits together. For landscapers, booking estimate visits online saves a pile of phone tag in the spring rush. For restaurants, the same idea covers tables and seats at a tasting dinner.

What a good booking page needs

  1. Each service listed with how long it takes and what it costs, or starts at.
  2. Real availability that updates when you block time off.
  3. Buffer time between appointments for travel, cleanup or setup.
  4. Your deposit, cancellation and lateness policy, shown before they confirm.
  5. A confirmation right away, with the address and anything they should prepare.
  6. A phone number for people who'd rather talk it through.
  7. A Book button that's easy to find on every page, especially on a phone.

How Future handles it

Online booking and events come with Pro and Premier: customers choose a service, the person they'd like and a time on your site, with a calendar for each person who takes bookings, set by their own working hours. You can take deposits and charge a no-show fee.

Already book with another tool you like? Your site's Book button can link straight to it instead, so nothing changes for your regulars. Pro and Premier will get text reminders, Coming soon; until then, keep your number one tap away for people who'd rather call.
